The need for establishing a U.P. Chapter of Obstetrician and Gynecologists was felt for a long time butcould materialise only in 1986. It was the dynamic leadership of Prof. Usha Sharma from Meerut who conceptualized and started the organization. Thus the U.P. Chapter was born in 1986. Prof.Nawal Kishore from Agra took over as the President and Prof. Usha Sharma from Meerut took over as the Secretary. The conference was organized at Meerut in that year itself. Subsequently, annual conferences have been successfully organised in different cities regularly. It would be emphasized that state chapters serve as a good platform for exposure to scientific work for Postgraduate students. They get an opportunity to express and learn from their seniors. All conferences organised so far have been very successful and have been well attended.
U.P. Chapter of Obstetrics & Gynecology is an association of Obstetrician and Gynecologist from Uttar Pradesh having more than 1200 members at present. This association is associated with lots of academic activities in the form of organizing one state level annual and one Mid term conference every year with publication of one indexed journal named as "Journal of U.P. Chapter of Obst&Gynae".
